Printable EDDM Checklist

Every step of an EDDM Retail mailing on one page. Print it, or use your browser's print option to save it as a PDF.

Before you print

  • Create or sign in to your USPS.com account
  • Choose your routes in the EDDM Online Tool
  • Decide on all addresses ("Postal Customer") or homes only ("Residential Customer")
  • Check the order: at least 200 pieces, no more than 5,000 per ZIP Code per day
  • Note the total pieces for each route from the order summary
  • Check your size in the Mailpiece Size Checker: longer than 10.5 in, taller than 6.125 in or thicker than 0.25 in
  • Keep each piece at 3.3 oz or less
  • Add the EDDM Retail indicia, top right, above the address block
  • Add the address block: "Postal Customer" or "Residential Customer"
  • No personal information, handwritten matter or bills on the piece
  • Approve the proof and order enough pieces for every route (plus a few spares)

Order and pay

  • Choose your drop-off date in the online tool
  • Pay online by card, or choose to pay at the Post Office
  • Print the facing slips and forms from the order confirmation

Bundle

  • Separate the pieces by route
  • Make bundles of 50 to 100 pieces, no taller than 6 in
  • Fill in a facing slip for each bundle, including the piece count and "1 of X"
  • Add any Do Not Deliver addresses to the slip for that route
  • Put the slip on top, under the straps or rubber bands

Drop off

  • Complete PS Form 3587, including the route information on the back
  • Bring the bundles, PS Form 3587, the payment receipt (or a way to pay) and your order paperwork
  • Go to the Post Office named in your order summary
  • Shipping instead? Send it by Priority Mail to "Postmaster" with a sample piece, PS Form 3587 and the instruction letter, and mark each box "Every Door Direct Mail–Retail" and "Open Immediately"

After

  • Keep a copy of your order and a sample piece
  • Track responses by route so you know which routes to mail again
